It depends on your definition of ';professional';. If you simply mean getting people to pay you to make small to mid-sized regional websites of dubious quality, start with Web Design for Dummies - http://www.amazon.com/Web-Design-Dummies鈥?/a> - it's a great intro book that doesn't assume you know anything about development or design.
But if by ';professional'; you mean you make professional websites, there is no series of tutorials. High-end web development is a serious profession that requires years of study and practice across a number of disciplines - I'd start by getting a degree in computer science or graphic design, and then filling in the other with lots of books and studying on your own time. As Rex M says, it really depends on your definition of professional. But I'll go a little further, what design experience do you presently have?
If none, you will need traditional skills before you leap into the medium.
If you are a professional (defined by earning a living by being a designer/illustrator/etc) than transposing that knowledge is a matter of learning new skills.
Determine what you would like to learn and then focus on those application's tutorials. From there get involved in the online communities to get connected on more ways to extend your talents and skills.
Check some of the links for a few ideas. Good luck. What tutorials do i have to learn to be a professional in web designing?any one have links ?
Learn Graphic Design, XHTML (not the old HTML 4), CSS, php and/or ASP.net
